TDC Book Night!
March 16, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
We’re sorry— this event is sold out. Books have the power to transform the reader—and the world—in ways big and small. But which books? Faced with seemingly infinite choice, how do we determine what we should we read next? Of all the tools that are able to connect reader and book few are as powerful or as visceral as the cover design. A good cover plants a question in your mind that MUST be answered. It makes you laugh or gasp or fume. A great cover goes even further: It seems to expand with the narrative and is reborn, a bit richer, every time the reader closes the book. Simply put, when a book cover works, it’s more than just design—it’s magic. Join us for our annual TDC Book Night! as we invite three of the world’s best book cover designers and art directors to come show us how it’s done.
Robin Bilardello graduated with a BFA in Graphic Design from Ringling School of Art and Design in 1997. Currently, she is a VP/Senior Art Director at HarperCollins Publishers in New York, where she has worked for 15 years. Along with running the cover art department at Harper, her design work has been recognized by many of the top design publications: the Art Directors Club Young Guns 5, Print magazine, and AIGA 50/50 to name a few. She lives in Brooklyn with her boyfriend and her cat, Noonie.
Darren Haggar is VP Art Director at the Penguin Press. He started his career at Penguin UK before finding his way to Viking 17 years ago, and has been with the Penguin Press imprint since it began in 2003.
Tal Goretsky designs covers for the Crown Publishing Group and art directs Crown Business. Previously, he was art director of Scribner, and worked as a designer for Penguin Press. Some of his coworkers have accused him of having Tourettes.
