East Bronx: Allerton, Olinville and Williamsbridge

For the first time a TDC lettering walk will take place in the Bronx. We will visit several neighborhoods in the East Bronx located between Bronx Park and Boston Road: Allerton, Olinville and Williamsbridge. These neighborhoods will be unfamiliar to most TDC members and will provide a contrast to lettering walks in Manhattan and Brooklyn. The lettering will primarily be signs on small businesses; inscriptions on churches, schools and government buildings; and the occasional house number, vernacular sign or graffiti. If we are lucky we will see the work of the Preacher of the Bronx, a mysterious man who posts small but colorful religious warnings on trees and telephone poles. This is a chance to see a different part of New York City, the great city created by the Consolidation of 1898.

Information on the meeting place, along with a planned itinerary, will be provided several days prior to the walk.
