Script Lettering Workshop with Martina Flor

In this hands-on intensive workshop you will drive the process of drawing and refining custom script lettering. In this one-day session you will be introduced to effective techniques to create cursive lettering from scratch, with essential insights to deal with flourishes and composition.
It is ideal for beginners as well as advanced letterers who want to improve their technique to draw cursive letter shapes and master flourishing. You will walk away from this workshop with a sharper eye for working with typography and practical tools to improve your own creative work.
There are no prerequisites to take part in this workshop.
What you’ll learn
You’ll get practical techniques to create script hand lettering with flourishes and insights for the continuation of your own practice after attending this workshop.
All participants will receive a booklet, a diploma and a goodie.
Materials.
You need to bring your own mechanical pencil. All other materials will be provided.
Schedule
Duration: 7 hs + 1hr lunch break

What level of skill are you catering for exactly?
The workshop is targeted to all levels of expertise. Beginners as well as more advanced attendants are welcome. Martina conducts individual guidance on each one’s project.
What topics are you covering?
The workshop is 25% theoretical and 75% hands-on, covering topics such as: sketching techniques, best practices at sketching, optimising the design process, achieving personal results, letter design basics and advanced knowledge (according to the project). Martina provides insights on the professional work as a lettering artist in a Q&A session.
Martina Flor combines her talents as both a designer and an illustrator in the drawing of letters. Based in Berlin, she runs a leading studio in lettering and custom typography working for clients all over the Globe such as The Washington Post, Vanity Fair, Harper Collins, Monotype, Etsy, Adobe, Fontshop and Cosmopolitan among others.
With a master in Type Design from the Netherlands under her belt, she dedicates big part of her time to teaching lettering and type design in and outside Europe. Her book “Lust auf Lettering” published in 2016 by Verlag Hermann Schmidt in Germany has already been translated to several other languages including English as ‘The Golden Secrets of Lettering” (Princeton Architectural Press and Thames & Hudson, 2017). Former TEDx speaker, she travels quite a bit to present her work at conferences and hold workshops to help designers grow their set of skills.
