The birth of Czech typography

A fight for the national typeface
Czech typographer and editor Filip Blažek will describe the story of the Czech typography from its shy beginnings at the end of the 19th century until the boom of the digital type production we experience now. Filip will show the visual journey of the Czech typography, its inspirational sources, important figures and influential typefaces. He will also put the typographic history in the context of the political situation in Europe during the turbulent 20th century. The presentation will feature works by many famous typographers (Vojtěch Preissig, Oldřich Menhart, František Štorm) as well as rising stars of contemporary Czech design scene.
Filip Blažek works as a graphic designer since 1993. In 2003, he established Designiq studio in Prague. He focuses on corporate identity, book design and editorial design and typography. He regularly contributes to professional periodicals in the field of graphic design. Since 1999, he lectures on type design and typography. He is the Czech deputy of the international organisation ATypI.
