Join Paul Buckley, Matt Vee, and Elizabeth Yaffe as they explain the story
behind the book CLASSIC PENGUIN—Cover to Cover. And in a shameless attempt to maximize attendance, they will also be giving away tons of awesome Penguin merchandise, so don’t miss out! (Note: The exhibition in conjunction with this event showcases many of the stunning books featured in CLASSIC PENGUIN.)
PAUL BUCKLEY is a creative director for Penguin Random House and oversees a large staff of exceptionally talented designers and art directors working on the jackets and covers of fifteen imprints called the Penguin Art Group. Over the past two decades, his iconic design and singular art direction have been showcased on thousands of covers and jackets, winning him many awards and frequent invitations to speak in the United States and abroad. In 2010, he edited and introduced Penguin 75. In 2016, he edited and introduced Classic Penguin – Cover to Cover.
MATT VEE is a designer and illustrator who attended School of Visual Arts and Pratt Institute. He has received two Gold Scholastic Art Awards and created logos for worldwide brands. His work has appeared in The Washington Post, The Huffington Post, Slate, Print magazine, Paste magazine, and UnderConsideration’s Brand New. He made this book about Penguin’s tradition of excellence in book design in the hope of being included in its history.
ELIZABETH YAFFE is a videographer and would-be designer who works at Penguin. She graduated from Pomona College with distinction in Video Production and Anthropology. She manages the Penguin Art Group social media account where she posts photos and animations of Penguin books, in addition to assisting on projects for Paul and other art directors, and planning excellent departmental celebrations.
