57th Annual Type Directors Club Exhibition
The evening of Tuesday 19th July 2011 was the opening of TDC57 at the Cooper Union Gallery and Rose Auditorium in New York City. Attendees included a TDC Medal Winner (Matthew Carter) past presidents (Gary Munch, Klaus Schmidt, Roy Zucca, Daniel Pelavin), current TDC board members, TDC members and winners.
This year marked a number of changes to the TDC competition. New categories in the design competition included experimental/unpublished and self-promotion. It was also the introduction of the Best in Show award.

The evening started off with presentations of 2011 TDC Scholarships recipients: Mary Anne Di Lillo, School of Visual Arts, New York. Sarah Hawkless, Whanganui School of Design, New Zealand. Anne Reutinger, UCLA Design Media Arts. Walter Shock, Pratt Institute, New York. Gregory Skiano, The Cooper Union School of Art, New York.
We also awarded cash prizes to 2011 Best in Show Student finalists Cristina Vasquez, School of Visual Arts, New York. Min Hee Lee, University of Pennsylvania. This years winner was Niko Skourtis, California College of the Arts, San Francisco.
The evening culminated in Niklaus Troxler being presented with the inaugural Best in Show award for his poster Ullman-Kühne. Niklaus also had 2 other pieces in the show this year. His achievements in the competition go back 24 years, with his work appearing 31 times.
This years competition had over 1,500 entries from 34 countries culminating in 208 winners from 17 countries.

The show remains up until Wednesday, August 10th. Cooper Union is located at 41 Cooper Square, New York, NY 10003. Opening times are Monday — Thursday, 10am — 5pm. Closed Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
