Continuing Debuts for the TDC62 Global Exhibition Tour

The desire to see good design just keeps growing, and the work of participants in the sixty-second annual typography competition (TDC62) and last year’s annual typeface design competition (TDC 2016) is still traveling and inspiring the world in 2017.

On August 12, TDC62 opened in Jakarta, Indonesia at the Indonesia Design Development Center in the heart of the city and ran from August 14 though September 9. John Kudos of Kudos NYC, who designed the interactive for the Cooper Union gallery installation of The World’s Best Typography, has initiated the opening for TDC62 in Jakarta and is working with Asosiasi Design Grafis Indonesia (ADGI) and other partners to bring the typography show to five or more cities throughout the island of Java in the next few months.

On August 28, TDC62 opened in Santander, Spain at the Cantrabria Central Library. The show, which ran through September 30, served as the kick-off for the second TIPOS graphic design competition, which is sponsored by the Government of Cantabria and the Santander Creative Foundation.

In the United States, TDC62 debuted September 6 at the Shintaro Akatsu School of Design at the University of Bridgeport, Connecticut and closed on October 13. See photos of the installation here.

Each year, after the jurors select the award-winning entries, plans are made on where and how to exhibit several sets of this work throughout the world. This extensive exhibition schedule could not be achieved without the help of our sixteen international liaisons, who coordinate with our New York office and find venues, publicize the exhibitions, and hold local press events.

In the United States, the 2016-2017 tour commenced in New York at the Herb Lubalin Study Center of Design and Typography at Cooper Union with a formal reception. From there, the exhibition was shown in Washington, California, Las Vegas, Chicago, Toronto, Detroit, and is currently being shown in Bridgeport, Connecticut.

Locations in the US and Europe where TDC62 work was exhibited.

The location schedule varies slightly each year. During the 2016-2017 exhibition cycle, the TDC62 exhibition visited fifteen countries: Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Indonesia, People’s Republic of China, Poland, Spain, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States of America, and Vietnam.

Although it’s not shown on the map, TDC’s ambassador to Latin America, Diego Vainesman, took a digital version of the TDC62 show with him on his travels and showed the award-winning typographic work in Argentina (Buenos Aires), Bolivia (La Paz), Croatia (Zagreb), Cuba (Havana), Mexico (Xalapa), Nicaragua (Managua), and Spain (Pontevedra, Valencia).
