TDC Announces Fall Workshop Line-up
Type Directors Club has just announced its line-up of New York City workshops to offer illustrators, type fanatics, calligraphers, letterers, and aspiring type designers an opportunity to spend some time with experts who can inspire, encourage, and provide insider tips to take skills to the next level.
Classes range from one-day weekend intensives to once-a-week evening sessions – options to fit a working designer’s schedule. Here’s our schedule:
Monday night, October 23
Nick Misani:Fauxsaics Bootcamp
Four weekly Monday night classes
Perfect for vintage fans! Nick’s a vintage lettering expert who is passionate about decorative arts and old crafts spun out in new ways. His workshop will take participants through the steps of his technique week by week – reviewing traditional mosaics and tile patterns, making realistic renderings, and adding final touches. Matteo Bologna: Type Design for Non-Type Designers
All-day intensive
A crazy, fun crash course with the creative director of Mucca Design. Matteo will show you the basics of designing and generating a typeface with Adobe Illustrator and font-design software Glyphs. Learn how to kern, add diacritics, and produce combined letters. No finished font, but you’ll have a decent start. More here.

Nim Ben-Reuven: Fancified Letters with Nim!
All-day intensive
Live life with flourishes! Nim, a Brooklyn lettering artist and music-video producer, will take participants through new approaches to hand lettering and flourishes in words and letters. The class will include historic overviews of calligraphic ornamentation, sketching, and critiques to improve skills. More here.
