TDC Announces the 2018 Ascenders
The Type Directors Club is extremely pleased to present the 2018 Ascenders, nineteen designers under the age of 35 who show remarkable achievement in typography, type design, and lettering. The board of the Type Directors Club had the difficult task of selecting this group from 230 outstanding designers from 39 countries. The board was impressed with the quality and diversity of the entries, which offered proof that outstanding work is being done around the world. The selected group of 2018 Ascenders come from thirteen countries.
The names of the Ascenders were announced on July 18 at the TDC’s annual awards ceremony in New York City. The nineteen designers will receive awards designed by Matteo Bologna, their work was exhibited at the Type Directors Club from August 15 to September 7, 2018, and they will be included in the 2019 TDC annual book, The World’s Best Typography.

Ascenders 2018 is the inauguration of an ongoing annual competition that will recognize typographic and lettering designers working at the student level through early professional careers. The Type Directors Club supports and celebrates all those working to enrich and extend the typographic arts.
