The work on display was selected by an international jury from a pool of 2,000 entries from 47 countries. Read more here about works in the show that the judges felt were particularly noteworthy.

The exhibition’s opening kicked off on Saturday, August 12 with an enthusiastic crowd participating in an an afternoon type seminar. John Kudos of Kudos.NYC, one of the event’s organizers, talked about “Shifting Patterns: How Local Designers Can Compete in an International Setting.” Gumpita Rahayu followed, providing an inside look at Indonesia’s typography sector.

A sharing session with Gumpita Rahayu, the founder of @tokotype, about how the typography industry actually works in Indonesia.

The first TDC exhibition in Indonesia was in 2010 at Alun-Alun Indonesia. This year, TDC Indonesia 2017 is presented by a series of partners — Bodypak, Ilitho, and Paperina. The show was brought to Jakarta by Kudos.NYC and ADGI (Asosiasi Design Grafis Indonesia) with the support from IDDC and APTA studio. KUDOS Design Collaboratory™ designed the exhibition and graphic concepts using an oversized T-D-C letterforms that revolve in space. Kudos also produced an interactive geographic visualizer of the competition winners that is controlled using hand gestures.

ADGI organized the exhibition venue research, rallied local partners and supporters, developed online and offline promotional tools, and gathered volunteers to install, coordinate, and organize type-centric talks and programs. IDDC provided exhibition space and accommodations, led by the Indonesian Ministry of Trade.

Prior to its opening in Jakarta, this TDC62 exhibition traveled from New York to many cities in United States, France, Germany, Spain, China, Taiwan, Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Kudos, ADGI, and their other partners plan to bring the typography show to five or more cities throughout the island of Java in the next few months.

The exhibition is free to the public from Monday through Friday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. through September 6. (Closed Saturday, Sunday, and public holidays). The IDDC is located at Jl. Letjen S. Parman No.112, Grogol, West Jakarta.
