Nina Stössinger

Nina Stössinger, a type-obsessed designer and overall curious person, is a Senior Typeface Designer at Frere-Jones Type in Brooklyn. Before focusing entirely on type design, she was working as an independent typographer, graphic designer, type designer, and tool developer in The Netherlands and before that, in her native Switzerland.

Nina’s type designs include FF Ernestine, Sélavy, and Nordvest. Her work has been widely awarded, including the Certificate of Typographic Excellence from the Type Directors Club, the Certificate of Excellence from the International Society of Typographic Designers, the iF communication design award, and the Award of Excellence from Communication Arts.

Nina teaches type at Yale School of Art, alternating semesters with Tobias Frere-Jones. She has also taught classes and workshops in screen typography and Python scripting.

Nina graduated in multimedia design from Burg Giebichenstein University of Art Halle/Germany, where she discovered her love for type. She went on to receive a CAS in Type Design from Zurich University of the Arts and an MA in Type and Media from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague.
