Old Shit New – Posters of Dafi Kühne
May 30, 2014 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
FreeOld letterpress printing equipment meets contemporary design thinking in the typographic posters of Swiss designer Dafi Kühne.
This event is a one-evening presentation and reception at The Arm letterpress studio in Williamsburg (just off the Bedford Avenue stop on the L train). It is free and open to the public.
Dafi Kühne is a Swiss poster designer who combines old and new methods and experiments, analog and digital, to produce commercial letterpress-printed posters. Kühne studied at Zurich University of the Arts and focused on the digital production of analog letterpress printing forms with his diploma project “Woodtype Now!”. In 2008, an Internship with Hatch Show Print brought him into contact with print technologies from the 19th century. For client projects he uses a Macbook, laser cutters, 50-year-old printing presses, traditional and newly cut wood type, platemakers, a pantograph for cutting and scaling type and many other conventional and unconventional tools to produce printing forms. He has taught at HBKSaar in Saarbrücken, Germany and recently been an Artist in Residence in the Graphic Design Department at VCU Richmond, Virginia. babyinktwice.ch
