Type Directors Club is pleased to present Love Letters, an exhibition of the pen and brush work of Tony DiSpigna from his Love Letters book, released in 2017. The show features over 40 years of Tony’s professional and private Spencerian script designs. The show will be displayed at the Type Directors Club through March 22.
Tony Di Spigna, born on the island of Ischia, Italy, is a graduate of New York City Community College and Pratt Institute. Tony was a partner in the legendary studio of Lubalin Associates where he worked on all aspects of visual communication and graphic design. He has achieved international recognition for his letterform and typographic designs including exclusive newly designed corporate typefaces and logos. He has won numerous awards and his work has been widely exhibited in The United States and abroad. In 2007, he was honored with a one man show in Italy. He currently teaches at The New York Institute of Technology and is a tenured professor at Pratt Institute where he was given the institute-wide Distinguished Professor Award.
In connection with this exhibition, Tony will talk about his Spencerian pen-and-brush technique at Type Directors Club on March 8 and will offer a personal tour of his Love Letters exhibition on March 19 as part of the Herb Lubalin centenary, Lubalin 100. Type Directors Club is co-sponsoring this event with the Herb Lubalin Study Center, with tickets available here.
